David Cameron and Aung San Suu Kyi call for suspension of Myanmar sanctions

British Prime Minister, David Cameron and Myanmar's pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi have issued a joint call for the suspension of economic sanctions against Myanmar following landmark talks.

The British leader said that with the exception of the arms embargo, it was right to suspend sanctions that were against Myanmar.

Mr Cameron had earlier hinted that he might push for an easing of European Union sanctions on Myanmar if he is convinced of reform taking place in the country.

Mr Cameron made a a historic visit to Myanmar today where he met with president, Thein Sein, and Ms Suu Kyi.

It is the first visit to Myanmar by a Western leader in decades.
