If you suffer from arachnophobia, stop reading now.

Scientists in Peru have discovered spiders are now building fake versions of themselves in the Amazon rainforest, as an apparent defence mechanism.

The Cyclosa spider, which is believed to be a new species, uses dead insects and jungle debris to create decoys before hanging them in their web.

Researchers don’t know for certain why these replicas are built, but believe it could be to fool predators looking for lunch.
