Twitter user @STUN announced the leak of virtual computing company VMware’s source code via a Torrent link. The hacker is associated with the AntiSec movement under Anonymous. The kernel containing the source code dates as far back as 1998 but the hacker commented that although kernels change in programs, “some core functionality stays the same”.
VMware spokesman Iain Mulholland said that the company has “engaged our VMware Security Response Centre to thoroughly investigate”. If the source code is used by the group to attack the system, VMware has encouraged users to update their products with the latest security updates.
