Timeline of how the 12-hour ordeal unfolded.
Two Singaporean men, aged 41 and 50, who are believed to be involved in a kidnapping case, were arrested on January 9.
The victim, 79-year-old Madam Ng Lai Poh, the mother of Lim Hock Chee, CEO of supermarket chain Sheng Siong, was released after a 12-hour ordeal.
“My mother is doing fine, and in very good health, but is still in a bit of a shock,” Mr Lim told reporters at a press conference at one of his supermarket outlets at Block 720 Clementi West Street 2 on Thursday.
This is the first kidnap case in 10 years and the ransom amount - S$2 million - was the highest ever recorded in a kidnapping case in Singapore.
On January 8, at about 2.13pm, a police report was lodged by Lim over a phone call he had received from an unknown person.
Mr Lim told the police the caller had demanded a ransom for the return of his mother. She was later released when the ransom was paid.
