The defence counsel has asked the court to dismiss the charges against former Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) chief Ng Boon Gay who, according to his lawyer Tan Chee Meng, has no case to answer.

The prosecution's evidence has been “undesirably weak” and their key witness Cecilia Sue’s statements have been “fraught with inconsistencies”, Tan argued, deeming them incredible.

The incomplete sexual acts which Sue claimed Ng had forced her to do on four instances also could not amount to gratification and were rather a “frustration”, Tan added.

“If the prosecution's case is that the accused had forced Ms Sue to give him oral sex against her will, they should have charged him with outrage of modesty, or extortion or the like, and certainly not corruption,” local media reported the lawyer as saying.

The prosecution has asked the court for more time to come up with a detailed response, which they will submit when the trial resumes on 19 November.
