Henry VIII is the archetypal macho English king, a lover, fighter, fornicator and jouster. In his youth Henry loved rough sports and carried on hunting and jousting long after it was safe for him to do so. In all probability he also bedded far more women than the six he officially married - rumours of him 'favouring' Anne Boleyn's sister while Anne was pregnant with the future Elizabeth I were just one example.

In policy too, he was both typically manly and typically English, favouring war against France simply because waging war against France was what a testosterone-charged English king was meant to do.
