Grassroots leaders "shocked", "saddened"

A draining day it probably was.

Former MP Michael Palmer showed up with his wife Diane to meet some 30 grassroots volunteers at the PAP's Punggol East Branch Office on Wednesday night, hours after he resigned over his affair.

Sharing this in a Facebook post, DPM Teo Chee Hean said that the grassroots leaders were shocked and saddened by Palmer’s resignation.

“Michael personally apologised to them. He encouraged them to continue the work they are doing to serve the residents of Punggol East. There were tears in many eyes as they wished Michael and his family well,” he wrote.

Local reports said that Diane stood close by her husband throughout the session, and hugged all the women in the room.
