I am very sorry that we have let the residents of Punggol East down: DPM Teo

Also present at the news conference was Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Teo Chee Hean, who said that Palmer came to see him and offered to resign on Saturday.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was informed, and both he and DPM Teo agreed that the resignation would be the proper thing to do.

“The Prime Minister met Mr Palmer on Sunday morning, confirmed the decision and then directed that this matter be dealt with decisively, and in an open way,” Mr Teo said.

“On behalf of the party and of myself, I will like to say to the residents of Punggol East, I am very sorry that we have let the residents of Punggol East down. I assure you that we would put things right and that we will continue to look after you.”

DPM Teo added that he has worked with Mr Palmer for more than six years and that he is a hardworking and good MP who is always caring for his residents and is a good team player.
