Samantha Lo aka Sticker Lady
4. Samantha Lo aka Sticker Lady
Was it street art or vandalism?
If it was art to you, will you still admire it if it appears on your walls at home?
The arrest of Samantha Lo, more infamously known as the “Sticker Lady”, shook up the local arts community earlier in the year, prompting an online petition (signed by more than 14,000) for her release.
Lo, founder of an online arts magazine, is believed to have spray painted “MY GRANDFATHER ROAD” on several roads here, and stuck stickers on several traffic signal buttons, some of which read “Press to time travel”, “Press to Nirvana” and “Anyhow press police catch”.
The case triggered an intense public debate on what the boundaries for art were in “a city obsessed with order”-- as The Guardian described Singapore.
Lo, who was said to be “quite traumatised and distressed by what has happened” is out on bail and investigations are still ongoing.
