SINGAPORE: A 35—year—old woman was fined S$3,000 for allowing the premises she had rented to be used as a brothel.
As tenant of the premises in Geylang Lorong 24, Lin Jinhua rented rooms to couples who wanted to have sex.
She charged S$6 for half—an—hour’s use of the rooms, and even provided condoms.
Some of her ’clients’ were prostitutes plying their trade.
Two of them had rented rooms from her between June and August this year.
According to court documents, Lin became a tenant of the unit early this year.
When she was not around, she instructed her parents to collect the rent money and clean the rooms as well.
In her mitigation, a teary Lin said she was a single mother, who had committed the offence because she needed cash to pay for her parents’ medical bills and for her young son’s education.
In addition to the fine, Lin could have been jailed up to three years.
