WIS scheme to be reviewed later this year

SINGAPORE: The Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) scheme, introduced in 2007 to supplement the wages and CPF savings of low—income workers, will be reviewed later this year.
In 2011, a total of S$371 million was distributed to more than 310,000 workers in the lowest 30 per cent of income earners.
Acting Minister for Manpower Tan Chuan—Jin revealed in Parliament that the review will take into account changes in income levels and inflation.
The government will also ensure that it targets those who need it most.
