WDA launches new training framework for Assembly & Test sector
A new training framework has been launched for the Assembly and Test sector by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency, or WDA.
It will level up the skills and competencies of workers in the semiconductor industry.
The framework comprises three qualification levels that target professionals, managers, executives, and technicians.
The WDA will fund course fees and absentee payroll for companies that upgrade the skills of their workers through this training framework.
It expects to train 1,500 workers by the end of next year.
Mr Heng Chee How, who is the Deputy Secretary-General of the Labour Movement said it's important for workers to upgrade their skills as the industry is under constant pressure from technological change and price competition.
"If you look at the electronics industry in general, and wafer industry and Assembly & Test, these are hyper competitive global areas, so technology keeps changing, and price competition is very fierce. So in this kind of environment, where do you find your competitiveness as against other companies and also as against other countries? So you keep on moving, and therefore you need people who are better and better in terms of their skills and capability."
