SINGAPORE: Locals consumers are generally satisfied with the quality and variety of programmes on MediaCorp that covers foreign and local content across all seven channels — Channel 5, 8, U, Channel NewsAsia, Okto, Suria and Vasantham.
In a recent Media Development Authority survey, close to 90 per cent of respondents said no particular channel has worsened over the past year while 15 per cent think Channel 8 has improved the most, followed by Channel NewsAsia.
Respondents are also happy with the customer service standards of local broadcasters, including hotline services and technical support.
The survey also reports that more than half of all Singaporean and PR households subscribe to cable TV, and most viewers were satisfied with the variety and quality of programmes available.
Traditional platforms continue to be a trusted source of news.
But a relatively high proportion of youths — aged 15 to 19 — are turning to the internet. And four out of 10 of them said they believe most or all of what they read on websites such as Wikipedia.
The younger consumers were also reported to be more critical towards news reports.
Overall, the respondents said they are satisfied with media content in Singapore in print, broadcast or online with 72 per cent of respondents rating media services as "satisfied" and "very satisfied".
