UNFCCC executive secretary visits Singapore

SINGAPORE: The Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Ms Christiana Figueres, is in Singapore from Wednesday to Friday.

She is in Singapore at the invitation of Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.

Her visit is part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs International Organisations Distinguished Visitors Programme (IODVP), which aims to promote mutual understanding and cooperation through the exchange of views with Singapore leaders and officials.

During her visit, Ms Figueres will call on Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, who is also the chairman of the Inter—Ministerial Committee on Climate Change.

Ms Figueres will also have meetings with Dr Balakrishnan and Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Ms Grace Fu.

Ms Figueres will deliver the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) Distinguished Public Lecture on "Climate Change: Why We Need a Multilateral Solution" on Thursday.
