Two people died in Marina Bay Suites fire

The Singapore Civil Defence Force, SCDF, say the'yre investigating a fire at Marina Bay Suites last night in which two people died. 

SCDF say they received a call about the fire shortly after 10pm and dispatched three fire engines and other support vehicles. 

When they arrived seven minutes later they saw smoke coming out from several upper floors. 

The smoke was traced to the 65th floor. 

SCDF fire fighters encountered heavy smoke and intense heat as they made their way to the 65th floor where they found the service lift lobby area fully engulfed in flames. 

The fire involved renovation materials and was put out by three water jets. 

SCDF fire fighters discovered two charred bodies inside the 65th floor service lift opening. 

Police have identified the two persons as Mr Sim Lai Huat, a Singaporean, and Mr Sooria Kala, a Malaysian. 

They were security officers at Marina Bay Suites.
