Two killed in road accident while installing cables

SINGAPORE: Two workers were killed in an accident involving a van and a lorry along New Upper Changi Road at 8.30am on Saturday.

They were pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel had to extricate one body that was caught between the van and the lorry. The second body was found at the back of the lorry.

A third worker who was injured was found by the side of the road. He was sent to Changi General Hospital in a conscious state.

The three men were workers from Ser Chuan Construction Pte Ltd, which is the contractor of SP PowerAssets.

SP PowerAssets said the workers were carrying out cable installation work at the time of the accident.

Channel NewsAsia understands that the workers are from Bangladesh.

A SP PowerAssets spokesperson said they are saddened that the two workers died and one was injured.

The spokesperson added that they will work with Ser Chuan Construction to inform the families of the two workers who died and to take care of the third employee, who is receiving treatment in hospital.

SP PowerAssets said they are investigating the cause of the accident.
