TTSH takes steps to deal with bed crunch
Tan Tock Seng Hospital says while bed space has been stretched since the beginning of the year, the situation is starting to improve.
Its Bed Occupancy Rate today is 93%, down from last week's daily rate of nearly 97%.
The hospital has also assured the public that patient care has not been compromised.
Bed Occupancy Rate at Tan Tock Seng has been above 90% since the start of the new year.
While the average waiting time for a bed there is between three and five hours, the hospital says it has seen patients cross the 10-hour mark in the first week of January.
To manage the situation, initiatives have been put in place.
They include setting up tent beds along corridors, as well as diverting patients to other hospitals.
Over the weekend, two recovery wards at the "Communicable Diseases Centre 2" were opened for patients who required sub-acute care.
Patients are also assessed once they reach the Emergency Department to ensure that urgent cases are admitted.
