SINGAPORE: The Tripartite Committee for Low—Wage Workers and Inclusive Growth (TriCom) is not just focused on raising wages.
Chairman and Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Manpower, Mr Hawazi Daipi said TriCom also focuses on improving working conditions.
He said the committee is hoping to bring more workers into the CPF scheme. "By having funds in the CPF, workers will benefit from WIS (Workfare Income Supplement), and they will have savings for old age as well as for medical purposes," he said.
The Workfare Income Supplement Scheme was introduced to supplement wages, encourage older low—wage workers to work regularly and build up their CPF savings.
On which industries TriCom is focused on, Mr Hawazi highlighted the cleaning and security industry.
He was responding to a question by Member of Parliament Gan Thiam Poh.
TriCom was set up in October 2010 to recommend measures to improve employment conditions among low—wage workers and promote low—wage worker initiatives.
