A lab which looks into improving Singapore's transport system has been set up.

The Intelligent Transport Systems or ITS lab, will study as well as conduct trials on a range of technologies aimed at improving the safety, efficiency, and performance of the transport systems here.

It's a collaboration between automotive supplier, Continental, A*STAR's Institute for Infocomm Research and the Technical University of Munich.

The initiative is supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board.

The lab will be located at A*STAR's Institute for Infocomm Research laboratories in One-North.

Travel demand is expected to increase from 12.5 million journeys per day now to about 18.8 million journeys per day by 2030.
