Transport Ministry to step up implementation of MRT noise barriers
Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew says his ministry is speeding up the completion of noise barriers along MRT tracks by one year, in 2019.
He adds that the government will also bring forward more of the works for completion by 2016.
Speaking during Committee of Supply debate, Mr Lui says that noise barrier trials in Bishan and Tampines indicate that they have brought down the noise of passing trains by at least 5 decibels.
He says the government is working with contractors to finalise the design of the barriers, which will vary based on local conditions.
