Train service improved last year due to measures taken by joint teams comprising LTA,SMRT and SBS Transit


The Land Transport Authority, LTA, says the trains were more reliable last year.

Across the MRT network, it says the number of incidents causing delays of more than five minutes for every 100,000km travelled went down by 20 per cent, to just 1.18 last year. 

LTA attributed the improved reliability to several targeted measures implemented by joint teams it formed with rail operators SMRT and SBS Transit. 

For instance, since the middle of last year SMRT has adopted new technologies in its preventive maintenance regime. 

It will also complete a project to replace all power cables on the Circle Line by the end of this month. 

Separately, the LTA said commuters can expect shorter waiting times this year especially during off-peak periods, as the operators have increased the number of weekly train trips to improve service. 

Off peak waiting times will be reduced to under 5 minutes by September on North South and East West Line.
