SINGAPORE: The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) has declared a 48—hour safety time—out for its frigates, missile corvettes and landing ship tanks.

The time—out, which started Monday, follows an accident which left a navy serviceman critically injured.

Head Naval Operations Rear Admiral Jackson Chia said the safety time—out will allow the RSN to review its operating and safety procedures.

Weapon Systems Supervisor ME2 Jason Chee Weng Fai, the serviceman involved, remains in critical condition and is warded at Changi General Hospital.

Mr Chee is expected to be in its Intensive Care Unit for a few days. He has undergone surgery.

The regular serviceman was injured on Monday after he got caught between a motorised winch and a rope on Landing Ship Tank RSS Endeavour.

He was checking on a berthing rope that was being tightened when the incident happened.
