Thumbs up to initiatives announced at National Day Rally: REACH
Singaporeans have given the thumbs up to initiatives announced by the Prime Minister at the National Day Rally.
A telephone poll by government feedback agency, REACH, showed that more than 8 in 10 (86%) of those polled supported the Silver Support Scheme.
The scheme will disburse annual payouts to lower income elderly Singaporeans from the age of 65 to help them with living expenses.
More than 7 in 10 (75%) believed that they will have sufficient opportunities to upgrade their skills and education even after starting work.
And 7 in 10 (70%) supported the idea of increased flexibility in allowing a lump sum withdrawal, subject to limits, of their CPF savings from 65 years of age.
Close to 7 in 10 (67%) supported the extension of the Lease Buyback scheme to include 4-room HDB flats.
With more than 6 in 10 (65%) expressed confidence that the new Municipal Services Office will significantly improve the delivery of estate services.
Senior Minister of State for Health and Manpower and REACH Chairman Dr Amy Khor said the challenge is to communicate and enable Singaporeans with different circumstances to understand how they can benefit from these initiatives.
The poll involved 1,136 randomly selected Singapore residents aged 15 years and above who had at least read or heard about the issues raised in the Prime Minister's National Day Rally speech.
