SINGAPORE: Singapore’s Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen on Monday urged military scholars to hold themselves to the highest standards of behaviour, and to embody the armed forces’ values of honesty and integrity.

He said military service is a national calling, not merely a career.

Dr Ng presented the Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Scholarship to three individuals on Monday.

They are Officer Cadets Scott Ang, Ryan Tan and Yeo Bing Lin.

All recipients will eventually be groomed to assume key leadership positions in the Defence Ministry and military after completing overseas tertiary studies.

"Recipients can expect a challenging career path and undertake various command and staff appointments that will help to sharpen their mental, physical and leadership capabilities. And for those who do well, they will be entrusted with heavier responsibilities, even at a relatively young age," said Dr Ng.
