The Workers' Party publishes its Population Policy Paper

The party said it hopes this will enable Singaporeans to better understand the rationale and computations behind its proposals.
The party's Secretary- General Low Thia Khiang said the party believes it is important to encourage further debate so that Singaporeans can make informed judgements on the population issue.
According to the paper, the Workers' Party agrees with the Government that maintaining a strong Singaporean core is essential but disagrees on how to sustain and nurture this Singaporeans core.
The Workers' Party said it believes the solution lies in increasing birth rates over the long-term and this will require deep and comprehensive structural reforms to improve the quality of life of Singaporeans families.
Earlier this month, Parliament endorsed an amended motion on the Population White Paper after a five-day debate.
The amendments ensure that the 6.9 million population figure in 2030 is not a target and the projection is for infrastructure planning.
