The White Paper on Population is for the benefit of all Singaporeans says DPM Teo Chee Hean
The White Paper on Population is proposing a major shift which is a significant slowdown in the growth rate of the workforce and population.
Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said this as he launched the debate in Parliament on the roadmap to address Singapore's demographic challenges.
It has sparked debate since its announcement last week.
Mr Teo said the population growth rate is in fact projected to drop to about half the historical growth rate.
He added the government is not deciding now on the population trajectory beyond 20-20, nor is it deciding on a population of 6.9 million by 20-30.
