The government will make sure every Singaporean family who is working can afford their home
The current Special Housing Grant will be extended to buyers of four-room flats.
Middle-income households, and not just the low-income, will also be able to qualify for the grant.
This was announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in his National Day Rally speech.
He said the government will make sure every Singaporean family who is working can afford their home.
But instead of bringing down the prices of Build-To-Order flats, which will hurt all home owners, Mr Lee said more help will be given to Singaporeans to own a home, especially for the lower and middle income households.
So, the government will extend the Special Housing Grant to buyers of four-room flats.
The grant of up to $20,000 will also be extended to middle-income households buying four-room flats.
The current income ceiling to qualify for the grant is $2,250.
Mr Lee added that the government will continue to monitor housing affordability and will do more if necessary to make sure that an HDB flat is always within reach.
