The government will do more for corporate giving
The government will do more to encourage companies to give back to society.
Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Lawrence Wong says his ministry will work with partners like National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre and like-minded companies to champion a strong corporate giving culture in Singapore.
"Volunteer involvement is high among Singaporeans aged 15- 19, but this declines sharply in their mid-20s. Participation comes back up in their 30s, but it is still not as high as before."
Mr Wong urged more companies to get involved in corporate giving.
Government agencies can also come forward.
"Making giving a workplace norm sends a powerful message. It says that giving can coexist with the demands of building one's career and family, because one can be never too busy to do one's bit for society."
Mr Wong adds that his ministry will explore ways to facilitate the matching of companies with community needs in the coming year.
More details will be revealed later.
