Testing of driverless vehicles on public roads from next year
You could start seeing driverless vehicles on public roads from next year.
The public road network at One-North has been identified as the testing ground for these autonomous vehicles or AVs.
There are currently several ongoing AV projects in Singapore, including those by ST Kinetics, the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University.
Meanwhile, The Land Transport Authority will work with A*STAR to push research and development surrounding the technology.
They've set up a joint partnership, the Singapore Autonomous Vehicle Initiative (SAVI).
It'll provide a technology platform with a joint programme office to oversee and manage research and development (R&D) and test-bedding of AV technology, applications and solutions for industry partners and stakeholders.
A 17-member committee under Ministry of Transport has also been set up to study how Singapore can harness AV technology.
