SINGAPORE: A young patient in Tan Tock Seng Hospital has had a special visitor.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong shared in a Facebook post on Sunday afternoon that he had visited Tan Li Xuan, a 14-year-old resident of Teck Ghee.

Mr Lee is also a Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC, which includes Teck Ghee.

Li Xuan had her hand crushed in a sugar-cane juicer two weeks ago while helping out at her father's drinks stall.

Mr Lee said he's glad that she's healing, and that her family are keeping their spirits up.

"I told her about John Wesley Powell, who lost an arm in the American Civil War, but led an expedition down the Colorado River which discovered the Grand Canyon," Mr Lee shared.

"I wished Li Xuan a speedy recovery and a successful rehabilitation, and encouraged her to continue to pursue her dreams," he said.  - CNA/de
