Table Tennis: STTA targets two medals at London Olympic Games

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Table Tennis Association said its initial target of two medals for the upcoming London Olympic Games is achievable.

But the association remained coy on the colour of the medals.

The biggest expectation is on the women’s team to retain the silver medal they won at the Beijing Games four years ago.

But the president of the STTA, Ms Lee Bee Wah, said that they are not setting any limits on their paddlers.

"It’s a live game... we need to change tactics as we play, so it really depends on the form of the day. What I told our team is that, whether you get a medal or not, the process is much more important. As long as Singaporeans can see that you give your best and you fight for every point, I think the medal will come by itself," she said.

The Singapore women’s team coach, Zhou Shusen, believes a good draw in London will be key to their medal hopes.

"It will still be a 50—50 chance. If we are not drawn in the same group with China, it will still be a 50 per cent chance."
