Suspected armed robber arrested
Police have arrested a 35-year-old man who's believed to be involved in two cases of armed robbery at Jalan Tiga in Geylang, and Jalan Tenaga in Bedok.
On 27 June, a woman reported to the police that a man had followed her into a lift at Jalan Tiga.
As she was about to step out of the lift, the man grabbed her and led her to a staircase where he robbed and molested her before running away.
A similar incident happened two days later at Jalan Tenaga.
A woman told police that she had been in a lift when a man rushed in, and threatened her with a sharp object.
He robbed her of her cash and fled.
Officers from Bedok Police Division conducted intensive investigations and managed to establish the identity of the suspect.
The man was arrested yesterday, and will be charged in court today for Armed Robbery and Aggravated Outrage of Modesty.
If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to 14 years and at least 12 strokes of the cane for the Armed Robbery offence alone.
He may face another 2 to 10 year jail term, plus caning for Aggravated Outrage of Modesty.
