SINGAPORE: The National Healthcare Group Diagnostics (NHGD) is collaborating with the Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) to offer subsidised mammogram and Pap smear screening to women beginning Wednesday.

Women who are interested in getting screened can approach SCS for a free Pap smear.

At the same time, they will receive a S$10 NHGD mammogram subsidy.

That means they would only need to pay S$40 for a mammogram at any NHGD centre in the nine National Healthcare Group Polyclinics island—wide.

It is hoped that the double screening benefit will help detect both breast and cervical cancers earlier.

Breast cancer is the top cancer affecting women in Singapore. Each year, 1,556 women are diagnosed with it and some 370 women die from this cancer.

This is the second time that NHGD and SCS have joined forces to provide this double screening benefit to women as part of their outreach efforts to raise awareness about breast and cervical cancers.

Their target for breast screening this year is 3,000 women.
