Stay calm, avoid racial comments: Acting Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin
In the aftermath of the riot in Little India, Acting Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin has called on Singaporeans to stay calm, and to avoid racial comments.
In a series of posts on Facebook as the incident unfolded, Mr Tan urged Singaporeans not to add to the emotional climate.
Mr Tan says this is because emotions are raw, and can stir unintended knock-on effects.
Instead, he says we can all do our part and contribute to stability by appealing for sensibility.
Noting that Home Team officers will have to continue to maintain peace and stability in the days ahead, Mr Tan urged Singaporeans to support them in their efforts.
Mr Tan adds his thoughts go out to the loved ones of the person who lost his life in the accident, a 33 year old Indian national.
He also sent his best wishes to the officers who were injured in the line of duty.
