SINGAPORE: The ComChest Care & Share Charity Show 2014, which took place at the Resorts World Sentosa Theatre on Sunday (July 27), raised over S$6.2 million for beneficiaries under the care of the Community Chest.
Highlights of the star-studded show include a 'basketball symphony' where performers made music by shooting basketballs through hoops, and a piano performance by actor Bryan Wong as well as actress Rebecca Lim.
They were among 24 MediaCorp artistes like Ian Fang, Chen Liping and Priscelia Chan who took to the stage for charity.
Overseas artistes, Valen Hsu, Elisa Chan and Wakin Chau also performed during the charity show.
Hong Kong actress-director Charlie Young, the show's Honorary Adviser, said she was "very honoured to be part of the event".
"It is the first time I'm involved in such a charity show in Singapore. I am very moved. Although the performances were quite short, the huge amount of effort that went into them really showed," said Young.
Young, who wed Singaporean businessman Qiu Shao Zhi last year, added that working on the charity show was an experience that helped her "better understand Singapore" and said that she hoped to work with the Community Chest again in the future.
The ComChest Care & Share Charity Show 2014 is part of the Care & Share Movement mooted by the social service sector to make SG50 a meaningful celebration for the less fortunate as well.
Funds raised will be matched by the government under the special Care & Share Movement this year.
Community Chest Ambassador, media personality Wong Li-Lin, who was also at the event, said the charity show is a great opportunity for people to do good and "earn blessings as well as good fortune" by helping those in need, and urged the public to give generously.
The show may be over but the giving doesn't have to stop. Tele-poll lines for donations will remain open till August 10.
Those who wish to donate can call 1900-112 8808 to donate S$8, 1900-112 8828 to donate S$28, 1900-112 8848 to donate S$48 and 1900-112 8888 to donate S$88.
There will be a repeat telecast of the charity show on August 3, 3.30pm on Channel 8. - CNA/ha
