S'pore 6th most expensive location for expat packages in region

A survey has shown that Singapore is the sixth most expensive location in the region for expatriate packages.

In its latest MyExpatriate Market Pay Survey, ECA International, said that the average value of the overall package for expatriate middle managers in Singapore is about $257,000  per year.

But total expatriate pay packages remain lower in Singapore than those typically awarded in Hong Kong, which ranks fifth in Asia.

Japan is the most expensive location followed by Australia, India and China.

Lee Quane is regional manager of ECA International Asia.

"However this does not mean that an expatraiate in singapore is relatively poorly paid. The reason why, is because expatrait very often include in their packages are a lot of benefits that are provided in kinds, such as housing, such as education for children. And its really these factors where comapnies really save by sending staff into singapore."

An expatriate package is usually made up of a cash salary, benefits and tax.

Tax makes up the smallest part of the expat pay package in Singapore.
