SINGAPORE: Inculcating green habits at a young age — that is what the South West Community Development Council hopes to do in launching its first green preschool on Sunday.

The PCF Sparkletots preschool in Hong Kah North features environmentally—friendly fixtures, such as energy efficient light—bulbs and recycling bins within the premises. Other features include water—saving thimbles for taps and energy—efficient appliances.

It also incorporates an environmentally—focused curriculum, shared through storytelling and excursions.

The curriculum will focus on teaching preschoolers about energy conservation and recycling.

The launch also saw the first "eco Authors @ South West", a series of story—telling sessions based on stories written by primary school students for preschoolers.

South West CDC hopes to roll out the green programme to some 60 preschools in the district by March 2014.
