SINGAPORE: Social Media Week kicked off on Monday, with Singapore hosting about 40 events throughout the week.
The global conference, which is into its second year, is taking place across 26 cities.
It brings together businessmen, marketeers and members of the public to explore social media trends and their wide—ranging impact on business, society and culture.
Events in Singapore include a social experiment on online dating, and forums on how the platform can be used to promote social causes and shape industries.
Regional marketing director for Digital & Social Media of Samsung Asia, Damien Cummings said: "Social media has really transformed the way people talk to each other, how businesses are now talking to consumers. It’s really broken down the barriers between big brands, big faceless brands and how customers interact with them. It’s become the new force of customer service.
"If you break a product, you no longer have to call up the call centre now, you jump straight onto Twitter or Facebook."
