SMC signs MOU with a chamber of commerce in Spain
The Singapore Mediation Centre or SMC is sharing its best practices with one of Spain's chamber of commerce.
The aim is to help members of the Barcelona Official Chamber of Commerce or BCC to learn the use of mediation as a swift, cost-effective and practical mechanism to resolve business disputes.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed today by CMC's chairperson, Justice Belinda Ang and Miquel Valls-Maseda, chairman of BCC.
Both parties have agreed to exchange information and promote mediation particularly to businesses.
The BCC has more than 350,000 members, who represent 11 per cent of companies in Spain.
The centre expects to see an increase in cases as a result of a new legal framework in Spain, where commercial and business conflicts will be referred to the centre for mediation from the Barcelona business courts.
