SINGAPORE: Single and elderly residents in the Tanglin—Cairnhill Constituency were treated to a reunion lunch on Saturday.
The lunch, organised by the area’s Citizen’s Consultative Committee, aims to bring these elderly residents who live in rental flats together to celebrate with others in their community.
There was a series of events leading up to the Lunar New Year such as the distribution of ration and red packets to needy residents.
Tanjong Pagar MP Indranee Rajah who shared in the festivities, said it’s one way of reaching out to elderly residents who don’t have family support.
Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Law and Ministry of Education Ms Indranee Rajah said: "So whilst everybody else is having their own reunion lunch or dinner, these people wouldn’t have anybody to celebrate new year. So that’s why we came up with the idea of having a Chinese New Year reunion lunch with them. And we made it lunch so that the volunteers can have their reunion dinner with their families. And you can see they are always very happy because they know others are always thinking of them and this community is part of their family."
