SINGAPORE: The three big local telcos - SingTel, StarHub and M1 - will give the COMEX 2014 show a miss this year.

All three brands were not shown on floor plans for Comex 2014, according to the official website.

A StarHub spokesperson told Channel NewsAsia that it would not be at the IT show, which takes place from Thursday to Sunday (Aug 28 to 31), as the company had "decided to take a different approach towards how we engage consumers during IT exhibitions".

The spokesperson added: "(For the duration of) the upcoming IT fair, StarHub has lined up a whole host of exciting mobile, TV and broadband offers for our customers at all StarHub shops and authorised dealers across the island, starting from Aug 23, 2014."

Consumers can also pick up the deals via the company's website, and visit StarHub's Facebook page to get news of its deals, the spokesperson said.

"We review our marketing strategies regularly and in line with our customers' needs, to ensure we offer them the best retail experience," he added.

M1 also confirmed it is not participating in this year's COMEX exhibition. A spokesperson said: "During this period, M1 is making available to our customers many exciting promotions, such as our S$29 a month 100Mbps fibre broadband as well as attractive device pricing."

SingTel confirmed late on Tuesday that it would not be appearing at the tech trade show.

Said a SingTel spokesman: "We have seen a shift in consumer behavior, with a growing number of customers preferring to visit our sales outlets where they can enjoy the benefits of professional service and advice at a location which is closer to home. Our online shop has also become very popular as it offers customers the convenience of making purchases with a few clicks.

"We have decided to pass the savings directly to our customers in the form of more attractive offers. We have a range of promotions lined up for customers that are available at our retails outlets and online shop." - CNA/kk/by
