Singapore's manufacturing sector remains a pillar

Singapore's manufacturing sector remains a pillar

Singapore's economy is changing but the manufacturing sector will continue to be a pillar.

That's according to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who's speaking at the 40th anniversary celebration of pharmaceutical firm GlaxoSmithKline's manufacturing presence here.

Mr Lee also assured that the country will continue to be pro-business by providing good infrastructure and keeping taxes low.

He added that Singapore will continue to invest in the biomedical sciences industry as the products command high premiums and require rigorous intellectual property rights.

The biomedical segment currently accounts for about 5 percent of Singapore's economy.
