Singaporeans visiting Mandalay should exercise 'high degree of caution': MFA
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday (July 4) issued a travel notice to Singaporeans travelling to Mandalay, Myanmar, following violent riots which resulted in a curfew being imposed by local authorities on Thursday.
It said in the statement: "At approximately 5pm (Myanmar time) on July 3, 2014, the Myanmar authorities imposed a 9pm-5am curfew in Mandalay after riots broke out in Mandalay since July 1, 2014. Singaporeans who are travelling to Mandalay are advised to exercise a high degree of caution, take all necessary precautions for personal safety as well as monitor local news and developments closely, and heed the instructions of local authorities.
"Singaporeans travelling to Myanmar are encouraged to eRegister with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs athttps://eregister.mfa.gov.sg/as well as purchase comprehensive travel and medical insurance."
It added that Singaporeans who require consular assistance while in Myanmar may contact the Embassy or the 24-hour MFA Duty Office.
