Singapore to attend Sub-Regional Ministerial Steering Committee on Transboundary Haze Pollution
Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Vivian Balakrishnan will be attending the 15th Meeting of the Sub-Regional Ministerial Steering Committee on Transboundary Haze Pollution tomorrow.
Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Grace Fu will also be at the meeting in Kuala Lumpur.
The Ministerial-level MSC, comprising Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, oversees the implementation of enhanced measures to prevent smoke haze arising from land and forest fires in the five countries.
Indonesia is expected to face mounting pressure to ratify the ASEAN Agreement on Haze Pollution, at the meeting.
The meeting is also expected to announced launch a haze monitoring system to identify hotspots and perhaps errant companies using high resolution satellite images.
