Second Minister for Trade and Industry, S Iswaran, says Singapore needs to transform its economy to create jobs that are suitable for an increasingly educated Singaporean workforce.
He made this point at the Ministry's annual Economic Dialogue on Thursday evening.
Mr Iswaran discussed several economic issues with students from various local universities.
He highlighted the challenges in global labour markets.
These include rising youth unemployment alongside an ageing workforce in developed countries and their implications for Singapore.
Mr Iswaran said the government will need to have a nimble and diversified economic strategy moving forward, in order to create better jobs for both young and older Singaporeans.
