Singapore National Games gets S$2.65m sponsorship

SINGAPORE : The inaugural Singapore National Games got a boost on Wednesday with a S$2.65 million sponsorship.

A sports festival to showcase sporting talent, the Games kicks off on September 1.

Sunrise & Co, distributor of Yonex in Singapore, is partnering the organisers, the Singapore Sports Council and People’s Association.

The deal, for three editions of the biennial event, covers apparel and accessories for officials, VIPs and volunteers.

The firm is one of Sporting Singapore’s strongest partners for many years at the major Games like the Olympics and SEA Games.

Ten sports are being contested in the Games, which is open to people of all ages, races and sporting abilities.

The Games will see community teams competing and using sports to bond and connect Singaporeans.

Chan Chun Sing, Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, said: "The national players are welcomed, in fact we want the national players to come and play together with the community because that will be one way to inspire more people to come and join the Games.

"If you are a soccer fan, you would like to play with some of the national players, and if you are a basketball fan, you would like to spar with some of the national players. I think this is also one way we have designed the Games so we allow people to come forward."
