Singapore and US reaffirm importance of strong US presence in Asia Pacific



Singapore and the US have reaffirmed the importance of a strong US presence in the Asia Pacific for enhanced regional stability and security. 

The reaffirmation came at a meeting between Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen and US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel at the Pentagon in Washington DC yesterday. 

At a joint news conference, Dr Ng said he welcomes Secretary Hagel's reassurance and reaffirmation of America's commitment to the Asia Pacific. 

Mr Hagel said the US will stand by its allies and partners in the region. 

In a joint statement, the two leaders also underscored the excellent and long-standing bilateral defence relationship between the two countries.
