SINGAPORE: Singapore has appointed Ambassador—at—Large Chan Heng Chee as its representative to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR).

Ms Chan succeeds Singapore’s first representative, Mr Richard R. Magnus, who will complete his three—year term on Wednesday.

The AICHR is an ASEAN’s overarching human rights institution to promote and protect human rights.

Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday (Oct 31) that the AICHR has submitted a draft ASEAN Human Rights Declaration to the ASEAN Foreign Ministers.

The Declaration is expected to be adopted at the 21st ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh in November 2012.
