SINGAPORE: Singapore Airlines has unveiled the winner's trophy for the 2014 Formula One Singapore Grand Prix. In April, SIA took over from SingTel as title sponsor of the Singapore night race, now into its seventh year.
The 5kg, 52cm trophy was handcrafted by Singapore jewellery brand RISIS. Its design was inspired by the iconic Singapore Airlines logo and the trophy's three stripes are plated in 24-karat gold.
"The trophy symbolises speed and motion, lightness and agility, with an understated touch of elegance and sophistication - some of the characteristics that Singapore Airlines is synonymous with," said Mr Foo Chai Woo, SIA's Divisional Vice-President for Sales and Marketing.
SIA also revealed that the Singapore Girl will make a debut at this year's race. Around 50 Singapore Girls will be at the starting grid, as well as the podium, for the 3-day event that begins on Sep 19.
"We have worked at creating exciting packages which we have marketed at international markets since April. We have continued to work with those markets to position Singapore as a great place to be and as a great place to come and visit with the race off course as a backdrop," said Mr Sheldon Hee, Vice President for Marketing Communications and Development at SIA.
The airline is running a social media contest where those who snap a selfie with the trophy and share it with the hashtag #RacewithSIA stand a chance to win race tickets or SIA F1 collectibles. - CNA/by
