Shanmugam meets counterparts from Rwanda, UAE, Zimbabwe

SINGAPORE: Minister for Foreign Affairs and Law K Shanmugam, who is in New York for the 67th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, met his counterparts from Rwanda, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Zimbabwe on Tuesday.

Mr Shanmugam discussed ways of enhancing bilateral relations with Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Louise Mushikiwabo.

The two ministers also discussed an upcoming Conference on Small States, which will take place in New York on 1 October 2012.

Mr Shanmugam and his counterpart from the UAE, Abdullah Zayed Al Nahyan, exchanged views on the recent developments in the Middle East and other areas of mutual concern.

The Singapore minister and his counterpart from Zimbabwe, Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, discussed cooperation in the international arena.

Mr Shanmugam also met the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer, as well as representatives from the American Jewish Committee.

Mr Shanmugam and Mr Maurer agreed to explore new areas of cooperation between the ICRC and Singapore.
